Who we are
Whitstable Insider is published by Split Decision Ventures Ltd, which is responsible for the information collected through this site. You can reach us at hq@splitdecision.uk.
What we collect, and why
- Your email, to open the blurred details. We receive your email address, your name and what brings you to Whitstable if you give them, which blurred detail you tapped and the page you were on. We use it to keep the details open for you and, only if you tick the box, to send occasional updates.
- Messages you send us. Corrections, listing updates, featured page requests, app enquiries, and the details you send after paying. We use them only to reply and to do what you asked.
- Payments. Card payments go through Stripe. We never see your card details. Stripe tells us about the payment and passes on the name, email, phone and business name you enter.
Our forms are handled by Netlify, which hosts the site and processes technical details such as your IP address to deliver pages and filter spam. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not sell or share your details.
Stored on your device
- A note that you have opened the blurred details (a cookie and local storage, kept for up to 400 days).
- The places you save to My Whitstable (local storage, never sent to us).
- For business owners: when their preview was first opened and whether they dismissed the owner note (cookies and local storage).
- Small notes so a payment is only reported once and the email bar stays closed for the visit once you close it.
Clearing your browser's site data removes all of these.
Services the guide uses
- Weather, air quality, sea temperature and tide times come from Open-Meteo. Your browser asks Open-Meteo directly, or through our host if that fails.
- The Ask chat answers from this guide's own information inside your browser. Your questions are not sent anywhere.
- Text is set in a font served by Google Fonts, which receives your IP address when it sends the font.
- Map and calendar links open Google Maps or Google Calendar, only when you tap them.
What you can ask us to do
You can ask to see, correct or delete what we hold about you, or to stop updates, by emailing hq@splitdecision.uk or sending us a message with your email address. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
